John Maine will try to keep the momentum going from his last 2 starts this afternoon as he square off against the left handed Paul Maholm, who was been one of the few bright spots in Pittsburgh’s season. Maholm is 3-0 with a 2.97 ERA. He is 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA against the Mets in his career. Maine’s last start may have been his best of the season save for the 6 walks. He struck out 7 and limited Atlanta to 3 hits over 6 innings.
Jose Reyes has had success against Paul Maholm, batting .385 in 13 at bats so hopefully he’ll be able to string together some more hits tonight. The rest of the Mets starters have either not seen, or struggled against Maholm.
