The loss is not bad as it seems…

Sure walking in the winning run in extra innings isn’t fun, but the truth is, this was one of the more impressive games the Mets have played all year.  They showed life in the lineup, they came from behind, they got over 7 innings of well pitched baseball by their bullpen with the exception of Sean Green’s that control issues.  After Oliver Perez walked Jamie Moyer to force a run in, Mets fans everywhere thought this game was over, and it should have been.  The team fought back for the first time all season, and looked impressive doing so.

Daniel Murphy is slowly becoming my favorite Met.  Watching him at bat makes you wish all the hitters in the lineup had his type of bat control, and discipline at the plate and he’s the young guy of the line up.  I must be seeing what Jerry Manuel saw in Spring Training because all he does is praise Murphy’s hitting.  His home run to start the comeback was on a ball on the inner half of the plate and he shortened his swing, got his hands around fast, and parked the ball in the right field bleachers.  Wright and Reyes should be taking notes.

Oliver Perez may be getting out of a trip to the minors, but only because the Mets may be placing him on the 15 day DL to nurse a sore knee.  I’m not sure if I believe this injury exists, but it is a temporary solution to a bigger problem.  Maybe the team will be able to try out a few starters while Ollie is on the DL and if none of them work out, they’ll be able to give Perez another shot.  Only time will tell.

Today’s postponement may have been a blessing since the bullpen could certainly use a day off, and the Mets wouldn’t have had one until May 20th.  It will give Jerry more time to make some decisions about the rotation and the lineup.
