Who doesn’t like Ike? 9 in a row at Citi

Ike Davis hit a solo moonshot in the bottom of the 11th to send the Mets to a 2-1 victory.

Mike Pelfrey was spectacular, striking out 6 in 9 innings, throwing just over 100 pitches. He allowed a run on 5 hits, and that run came in the first-the first opening inning run Big Pelf allowed all year.

In the 7th, Jose Reyes knotted up the game with his second homer of the year, a long fly that just squeaked over the Great Wall of Flushing. It was reviewed on replay (the ball was initially called in play) and overturned for a homer.

In the 10th, Angel Pagan hit a ball off the top of the wall in the Mo’s Zone that forced him to settle for a triple. I have to say, that thing is one of the dumbest aspects of any park in the majors, if not the dumbest. It has only hurt the Mets, especially David Wright. I think it would be better if the zone was closer to home plate relative to the rest of the wall as opposed to further away.

But anyway, leading off the 11th, Ike Davis, who had just one hit off the Padres in four games, hit a 1-1 Edward Mujica changeup halfway up the Pepsi Porch, a no-doubter. Ike’s one previous career at-bat against Mujica had also gone for a homer, last week in San Diego.

Tomorrow, it’s Mat Latos against Johan Santana, who has actually flown under the radar this year due to Pelfrey’s success.

And an update on our blog: I am working without Internet this week, so posts are coming from my phone. For a few days we will be devoid of thumbnails, and they will be a bit abbreviated.

Let’s go Mets!
