3/5-3/9 Update
Dave Meisel | March 9, 2010It’s proving tough to keep up with all the Spring Training games going on, both due to my schedule and due to the fact that they don’t get a lot of attention and it’s sometimes difficult to get the lineups or even follow the game (when it’s not on radio or TV). Here are the major things you should know from the last few days…
-Jose Reyes has a thyroid issue. However, doctors familiar with the issue have stated that it’s minor and completely curable. He has been shutdown as a proactive measure. This is probably the better move. We’re just overreacting because it’s Jose; but imagine if it really became a big problem if he played through it. Also, it’s not correlated to HGH; plenty of people have thyroid issues without taking HGH.
-K-Rod is back in action and apparently looked REALLY sharp in his bullpen today.
-Mike Pelfrey and Oliver Perez were both okay in their first appearances. Pelfrey took a ball off the knee but was okay.
-Jenrry Mejia, Ike Davis, and Fernando Martinez all continue to impress. However, they should all start (and probably finish) the year in AA, AAA, and AAA respectively.
-Johan Santana was not so great in his first appearance today. He started off with a strikeout, making Michael Bourn look silly, but his fastball was up and over the middle of the plate and got whacked. However, he came out satisfied and healthy, which is a sight for sore eyes.
-David Wright PULLED a laser of a 2-run homer today…another sight for sore eyes.
The Mets currently stand at 6-2 (likely 6-3 by the end of the day) in Spring Training play.
