Trivia Contest Winner

Joe Fiorello | September 14, 2009

DisgruntledMetsFan.com and SportsMemorabilia.com would like to congratulate Kevin McCarthy of Huntington for winning the David Wright Autographed Baseball and Display Case by being the first person to correctly answer our trivia question:

Mike Piazza hit the last New York Mets home run of the 20th Century.  Who was pitching when he hit the home run?

The correct answer was:

Denny Neagle

The home run came in game 4 of the 2000 World Series.

Contrary to popular belief, the 20th Century ended on Dec. 31 2000.  A lot of people answered with John Smoltz, who gave up the Mets last home run in the NLCS in 1999, coincidentally to Mike Piazza.

Thanks to all who participated, and don’t forget to use your discount code good for 15% off all merchandise at SportsMemorabilia.com

The discount code is:

Modell’s Mets Fan Contest Winners

Joe Fiorello | June 19, 2009

You may have heard about the Modell’s Mets Fan Contest, where two Mets fans would be selected to represent us all in the Mo’s Zone section leading the cheers.  The lucky winners, chosen at the Queen Center Mall are both die-hard Mets fans.

The winners were:
Sal Candiano from Freeport, NY (left)
Roger Kowalski from Maspeth, NY (right)

Judges included:

Matthew Artus from Always Amazin’
Adam Salazar from BrooklynMetFan.com
Eddie Boison aka “Cow-Bell Man”

I am happy to say that I have had the good fortune to share a section with one of the winners, Roger Kowalski, two seasons ago in Section 18 at Shea.  We were both Sunday season ticket holders, and he is nothing if he’s not entertaining.  Kowalski, as he was called by the fans in the section, is the perfect person to get the crowd going.  He has the intensity of a professional wrestler, and the voice to back it up.  I always felt like I was watching Wrestlemania as he would stand up in the front row, turn back to the crowd, put his arms up and start screaming with the type of fire you wish the Mets would show.  Sure he’s two years older now, but hopefully he’s still in his prime.  Modell’s,. Roger Kowalski will not let you down.  If anyone out there knows Roger, please forward him this post as I would love to ask him a few questions.
Let’s Go Mets!
